Internet Explorer is one of the most hated programs in Windows. With IE, a lot of people find themselves open to more viruses and popup ads than they experience when they run any other kind of web browser. While it does come with the convenience of being packaged with Windows, that appears to be among its few advantages over anything else.

When you download a file it ought to be because you want it for some purpose of your own. However, with Internet Explorer a lot of hackers have tons of code lined up ready to take over your web browser and sometimes your computer. The ultimate extension of this makes an inroad into your computer known as a Trojan horse, which allows malicious code to make your computer into a slow-moving zombie used to attack other computers and do the bidding of a criminal from some distant part of the world.

Internet Explorer also doesn’t agree with some very important parts of the online world like WordPress and CSS. When you can’t work alongside these components, a lot of business just can’t get done. And when this happens, you know you’re not using a very successful piece of software. Considering IE is several revisions in and they still haven’t made it secure or as functional as some beginning forms of other operating systems, there’s a serious problem that probably won’t go away. In a perfect world, you might just want to go with something like Chrome or Firefox.

People blog for many reasons. Some just want a writing outlet, and others use a blog specifically to make revenue. Others maybe want an alternative entertainment from the usual direct.tv movies and shows. One concept most individuals agree upon is the fact that it never hurts to earn some cash from your writing efforts.

You can do this relatively easily by signing up with some top affiliate programs. Once you register with one or more affiliate marketing programs, you link to their products from your blog. When people click on the link, you earn a commission. How much will you make for your commission?

Well, that depends on how much revenue or traffic you bring to the online retailer. Those with marketing savvy find themselves doing very well after a period of time.

Time is key here. Many people sign up with affiliate programs and expect overnight success. This isn’t likely to happen. You will need time to develop content that attracts readers and brings even more traffic to your site. If you get really creative, you can build an email list for subscribers who want to keep current on new products and promotions. Many blog writers also find that it’s helpful to offer giveaways.

This doesn’t mean that you need to go out and invest in thousands of dollars of product to give away. If you advertise items such as DVDs, you can sometimes connect with public relations people who will donate copies of DVDs specifically designed for giveaways. People will come to your site to see what you have to offer, they click your affiliate link, and you make a profit with your personal blog. Everybody wins.

Computer hounds have a plethora of media players to choose from to view videos, organize their music collection and to transfer media on their computers. Most of these have an initial free version that can be downloaded with the option to upgrade to a version with more bells and whistles for a price. The free versions work very well and are regularly updated automatically so that the user gets the best viewing experience. They each have their advantages and disadvantages, but the real choice often comes down to personal preference.

RealPlayer is a popular media player that allows the user to view movies, listen to music and view photos from a digital camera on a variety of different devices. It offers downloading of videos with click of the mouse, transferring of media and the capability to edit. It is one of the oldest media players, starting out in 1995, and has continued to improve in performance over the years. Look at cricket cell phones to see a list of phones that you can transfer the music to. In addition to phones, you can transfer your music to your ipod as well.

GOM media player has become more popular with time for its capability to handle a wide range of formats. It features a pop out list of songs and films to choose from while allowing you to easily organize your various media. The settings on the player can even be set to match your personal viewing and listening preferences. Quicktime from Apple continues to be another favorite, offering an excellent viewing experience and numerous creative features that make editing a snap.

In some cases the upgrade is worth the cost for the added features that are included. For those who are into editing and putting videos online, upgrading can open up new doors for creativity.

Apps are all the rage with smart phones. Apps are apparently easy to use because everyone seems to do it, and there are nearly half a million of them to choose from. They’re fun to use and they do everything but wash the windows. Here is a selection for Chrome users, from the top and the newest apps available. Have fun and try one, or try several.

Four Favorite and New Apps

RubbishBooks.com has a selection of children’s picture books with big, colorful pictures and a few words to read, too. From the reviews it’s gotten, people seem to love it – even the four year olds. Get the series about Patrick, Kevin and Arty free and share with the kids. Rated four out of five stars.

Dayzipping.com offers an app that lets you find out fun things to do from people who’ve actually been there. Find things to do near home and in other cities, but it doesn’t work outside the US so far. Rated 4.5 stars out of five.

Good Food from bbcgoodfood.com gives over 160 good-for-you recipes that come with full screen photos. All the recipes have been triple-tested and come with nutritional information like calories, protein, fat content, etc. and over 35 of these recipes are under 200 calories per serving. Rated five stars out of five.

Planetarium from neave.com teaches us about the stars in the night sky all over the world. Placing the cursor on a star makes it give the name, position in the sky, brightness rate, and other information about the star. Fun and educational, it’s rated 4.5 stars out of five.

It’s the saddest of days: a computer screen flickers, unable to sustain its own pixels; a keyboard stutters out commands; and all applications suddenly disintegrate, undone by invaders that can’t be seen.

Your system has been infected — and a download was the cause.

This could have been avoided, though, if simple precautions had been taken:

Identify Sources

Downloading files is an undeniable ease. It’s also, however, an undeniable temptation for hackers. Malware, viruses and Trojan codes can all be hidden within files — leaving you vulnerable to an attack. It’s imperative therefore that you first verify the source of a download: searching for a creator name, site reputation and more. This will help you to avoid potential dangers.

Limit Information

The Internet is meant to offer anonymity, to allow you the freedom of secrets. Certain downloads, however, may deny you those secrets — instead demanding personal information. Names, credit card numbers and more may be required for some applications. Caution is therefore stressed in the situations. You should never offer your private details to companies or code writers you don’t recognize.

Quarantine Files

The desire to download is often impossible to ignore. There are simply too many programs and too many possibilities. You want them all. It’s vital then to have a quarantine application in place. These serve as network protectors, ensuring that each new file is scanned for any known viruses or irregularities. They keep the downloads separated from your system until you accept their analysis. This is essential for all users.

These suggestions will help you battle download complications (and spare your next computer the horrors of malware).

Google is the world’s most popular search engine and is used by people across continents. Its other sites like Orkut and YouTube have gained amazing popularity as well and so Google is increasingly ingrained in modern technological culture! However, you probably don’t know a lot about the company itself. So here are some interesting facts!

Google founders initially ran the operations from their garage.

Before being publically launched, Gmail technology was tested internally for two years and the owners were able to identify 6 different types of email users. Gmail was eventually designed to meet the requirements of all 6 types.

Google marks holidays and events by designing unique logos. These logos are now made specifically for the geographies that local Google sites cater to.

Charlie Ayers was the first chef at Google. Hired in 1999, he went on to open his own restaurant by 2005!

Google gives employees the freedom to use 20% of their time to develop their own projects. Orkut is the result of this policy.

Google launches April Fool’s joke campaigns every year on April 1st. The very first one was the ‘MentalPlex – Google can read your mind’ joke in 2000.

Craig Silverstein was Google’s first employee.

Google moved to its Paolo Alto office in 1999 with a mere 19 employees.

You think Google has everything you could possible need to find? Think again! It will take Google another 300 years to get all the information in the world available online.

According to Google, only 10% of the world’s information is available online.

Google’s index is 3 times bigger than Yahoo’s and MSN’s.

Windows Xp is a great operating system, and has been for several years. Considering that it is nearly ten years old, one would naturally expect that technology has gone a great deal further than this aging operating system could support readily. However, it has proven again and again that not only is a robust type of operating system. It also has a great deal of staying power over the long term. Considering how many new programs and components Windows Xp has had to adapt to over the years, it is a little trooper.

Naturally, as time has marched onward, there has been a great deal of change within computers themselves, as well as a great deal of new opportunity with the higher end components which have come out in recent years. Windows Xp is showing its age, for certain. But in spite of this, it remains a popular, stable operating system which works with just about everything out there.

So while a lot of people immediately jumped on the Vista bandwagon (and most generally regretted doing so), and the world is migrating toward Windows 7, we must never forget the great contribution which Windows Xp made to the lives of all computer users around the world. While it has gone further than most operating systems would ever dream of going, and actually eclipsed Windows 98 as the best of all Microsoft has produced, it is soon going to be time to finally retire Xp from the service it’s done well.

The popular online music source Pandora, which allows users to create their own ‘channels’ based on their favorite artists and genres, was recently embroiled in disapproval for its release of users’ personal data. The problem occurred with the mobile application version of Pandora, which was free, and which revealed data from Android users. The data included the users’ phone identification number, their gender, and their location to advertisers. There was concern that this data tracking could be a security concern for some users, not to mention a violation of privacy to which users did not feel they had explicitly consented.

This information first came to light as part of a federal investigation of personal data transmission. Commentators have noted that many other services are engaged in similar personal data collection and communication to advertisers, who may or may not have a way to secure this data. While some of these practices may seem harmless, a large amount of personal data in the aggregate could provide enough information to scammers to perpetrate theft against individual users.

Similar concerns have surfaced with the overwhelmingly popular social networking site Facebook. Facebook users who play games and use other applications may be unwittingly providing their User ID information and the person’s friends to advertisers, even if they are using the strongest privacy settings that the site offers. With half a million applications available to half a billion users worldwide, Facebook has been asked to ensure that identifying information for its users are not tabulated through these applications.

Purchasing software can be quite costly and time consuming. Whether you’re in the market to purchase or sell software, consider software bundles. Visit sites like http://www.offers.com, which offer a variety of software and service options and great deals. There you’re sure to find the right software bundle to suit your needs and your budget.

The Right Package for the Right Job

When deciding which package to choose, sites like http://www.offers.com will take the guess work out of finding the right package for the task at hand. These software sites offer various categories of packages, making it easier to find what you’re looking for and for the best deal. There are many types of software packages available, such as packages for multimedia, games, apps, antivirus and anti-spyware, graphics and photo editing, music, and video.

Consider a Bundle

Companies selling software packages often bundle similar products together in one package. This generates more revenue for downloads such as music, videos, and games, and is also useful for marketing purposes. Bundling allows sellers to advertise for one product, instead of many, drastically reducing marketing costs. Software bundles also benefit consumers by saving time and effort by not having to search for individual software products. Consumers may also save money when purchasing bundles as they get more software options for one set price.

Whether you’re in the market to sell software packages, or purchase a package, save time and money by choosing a software bundle. Bundles offer considerable benefits without the hassles and extra expenses that come with individual software packages.

In order for most businesses to grow in today’s economy, one has to embrace the Internet. Millions of people are online at any given time, so a timely business knows that means millions of potential customers. The challenge is how to reach them. There are new tools for savvy business owners, and they can be incorporated into existing company websites and blogs. Not only has the Internet changed the way to seek information and communicate, but it has also sped up the way we move through the world. If a customer only gives you a few seconds of web time, what can you do to gather information to better market to their needs?

Survey Software

The only way to really know what your customers and clients do and don’t need is to ask them. Online survey software makes it fast and easy to get the information you need and direct those potential customers to the products they want. This is quickly becoming a dominant marketing tool for everyone from small business owners to corporations. They’re easy to distribute and can be customized to each business. Even simple “Yes/No” surveys can tell a good business person a great deal about potential sales. For entertainers, writers and news outlets, they help with media development. For politicians, these surveys can help craft the right campaign platform. The Internet makes the whole process fast, well organized and widely accessible.

How Surveys Work

Depending on the kind of information one wants to gather or distribute, surveys can be quantitative or qualitative. To quantify your information would be to simply count certain responses. You might ask if your customers like red cars or black cars. To qualify your information you would be looking for your customer’s opinions. You might ask what kind of cars they like the best. If the survey is fast and only one or two questions, it can be extremely effective without imposing on the customer’s time.

If you have been online in the past few years, you have no doubt noticed that for as many of the Napster imitators as there are out there, there are also a whole lot of different websites which make the process of downloading just about anything that you might want equally easy. While these websites are not a computer program which makes things so easy you just set it and forget it (as the old infomercials used to say), they are most definitely a good idea in regard to making it about as easy to download something as it is to point, right click and choose a folder.

After all, why do you need to use some kind of a fancy program for doing your downloading? If you did, why would most web browsers make it so easy for you to simply click on a couple of things, and then download whatever happened to be on the page? The level of simplicity which is represented here is so great that it makes one wonder if the Internet and downloading could really get any easier.

Of course, a lot of people have simply gotten used to using some kind of a program for doing their downloads. So this is a trend which is no doubt going to continue onward, just as it has in the past. But when you want to simply download one thing, without adding a whole new program to your computer, this is by far the easiest way.

There are some very important distinctions between regular digital cameras and SLR cameras. These differences may not be as apparent to a novice user, but they are definitely noticeable when your results really count. This is why they make two different varieties of cameras, after all. Naturally, both of these types of camera can be used to snap off a couple of pictures here and there. If that is your only objective, you should have no need of an SLR, since an ordinary digital camera should be perfectly fine to handle that kind of fairly light duty.

However, if you want to go into more detail and have some more control over what you are photographing, SLR cameras are the way to go for certain. With an SLR camera, you can do a lot of things which a more common digital cam will not allow you to do. For one thing, you can attach an additional lens, which can have a lot of different effects based upon the type you use. You can also do some very subtle but interesting things such as attaching filters. Different filters remove different things, which pretty much allow you a lot of leeway in what you end up capturing- it needs to be seen to be understood.

As far as common digital cameras, they have their own set of advantages, of course. They are pretty good for when you want to just point at something and snap a photo of it. When you want neither fuss of shutter speed nor muss of focal length, you can’t go wrong this way.

Everybody who knows much about the history of the online world has heard about Napster. And while it was ultimately shut down in court (despite heralding an entirely new age of the Internet as an egalitarian democracy where people connect to other people), it has spawned many imitators and homages over the ensuing years. While many of these programs do not actually share the files that they spread between individual users, what they actually do is really far easier. Simply put, there are repositories for music, games, movies, and all of the other content which people love to download, and these programs have access to all of that content.

Of course, there are some down sides to these programs. Naturally, downloading a program just for getting your content does add a great deal of irritation to the entire process of getting your files. The download itself takes up your time, your hard drive space, and adds another layer of things to do when you just want to get something from the Internet.

But ultimately, it can also make the process easier for you, since it does the work of managing the download. You can simply set a target, tell the program to do its thing, and then let it roll. This is a pretty brainless method of getting just about anything that you want to have, and it lets you go on about your day without worrying about the download itself. So there is some definite appeal to this method.

Free apps, or applications, for your media devices can really make your mobile phone or tablet incredibly powerful. These applications are becoming more popular than ever because so many are available and many of them are free to download and use. Consumers can find the type of application that fits their needs or just try out some of the latest application options available.

Fun, Free Apps

If you have not taken the time to check out some of the app options available to you, do so now. You may be surprised by the free options available to you.

Pandora is a free music service where you can pick the types of music you wish to listen to on the system. There are a number of other popular music apps that you can download for your listening pleasure. And if you’re an avid music lover, the Cricket music phone is your dream come true.

For those that like online gaming, there are free, online games to play. From Angry Birds to Words with Friends, all of your favorite varieties are available.

Social media apps like Twitter and Facebook are fun and convenient. You don’t have to wait until you get in front of your computer to use them. Simply update as you go.

As you can see, apps empower you to stay connected and to have fun, without charging you. There are apps that charge a minimal fee, but you often can find free versions. When you use these applications, you give your mobile device more ability to meet your needs. Consider how apps can change the way you use your device.

If you have never used Windows Media Player, you have not given yourself the true experience of owning Windows. While it does not randomly shut down as much as it used to in earlier versions, what it does do is play your music, podcasts, books on “tape,” and any other sound based things that you want to hear, whenever you want to hear them. Truth be known, this is actually one of the best, and easiest to use types of video and music playing software, since it plays a wide variety of different things and comes with Windows (which almost everybody has, anyway).

But of course, there are some drawbacks to Windows Media Player. After all, even once you have digested Microsoft’s End User License Agreement (or once you have glanced at it, then clicked on it after having read almost nothing the way most people do), you have a lot of ostensible responsibilities to uphold, not that anybody ever actually cares about many of the things which are in that agreement.

Another problem that a lot of people have with Media Player is that it simply does not play some of the file formats which people are interested in using. For instance, it does not play MOV files, nor does it readily accept many codecs which make AVI files properly playable. If these things do not bother you, there is no need to get anything besides Media Player for your audio visual needs. However, it does bother some people.

Dishes and linens are important, but today’s young couples will deeply appreciate some great tech wedding gifts, too. Everything from Blu-ray players and iPads to smartphones and 3D televisions make excellent gift choices. Technology has advanced so much in the last few years that you don’t even have to over spend to give the perfect wedding gift.

Tech Wedding Gifts for Today’s Mobile Lifestyle

What could be better than a pocket-sized portable video camera for the new couple’s honeymoon? There are a number of moderately priced products with amazing HD quality video capabilities. Follow it up with a portable video projector that can be used anywhere there’s a clean wall or ceiling space. Since that young couple is just starting out, a wonderful pre-wedding gift would be a pair of smartphones that will allow them to have access to all of their favorite apps. In fact, there are great wedding apps that will allow them to make important choices, like wedding ring designs at engagement.jrdunn.com.

Beyond Blenders and Wine Chillers

For the fit couple, try Nintendo Wii. Not only does the Wii keep the young couple active, it can double as a Netflix player. If you know pristine video quality is a must for the groom, a Blu-ray player could be the perfect gift. You’ll turn date night into delight to the eyes and ears, as they enjoy their favorite movies together. Of course the kitchen is important, so go beyond the traditional blender and gift the couple with a portable grill that not only makes outdoor parties fun anywhere, but it even sports an MP3 player. Along with that portable video player, the grill turns camping and picnics into a contemporary delight.
